Design 2: Forest Fire Coffee Table

  • This project is my interpretation of Thibeau Scarcériaux’s War Chair. While his work reflects global conflicts, my design focuses on the increasing impact of wildfires caused by climate change. This subject is personal, as my family was affected by the Australian bushfires.

  • The cube-shaped coffee table is made from wooden planks and symbolizes both destruction and resilience. Users can burn holes into the surface, making each piece unique, while the stackable form adds flexibility.

  • The design is also inspired by Yakisugi, the Japanese technique of charring wood to preserve and strengthen it. Here, burning represents both damage and transformation, turning the table into a tribute to the changing environment.
